SEAS Class of 2012 Sets Records

The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science has sent out letters of admission for its Class of 2012, the most selective, diverse and highly qualified the School has seen to date. A record 3,463 applications were received, 6% more than last year, to fill the 315 slots in the Class. There were 609 students admitted, for an admit rate of 17.6%, an all-time low.
 
“I am pleased that both the quality of our students and the very broad diversity they represent continues to increase,” said Gerald A. Navratil, Interim Dean of The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. “Our School will provide them with a unique curriculum, from the common experience of our first-year service learning course in design fundamentals to courses in the famed Core Curriculum and from a choice of more than 20 liberal arts minors to new opportunities to minor in entrepreneurship. We welcome them into the Columbia SEAS family.”

The admitted class, which consists of 38% women, is the most diverse in the history of the School. Students come from 41 states and 22 countries.
