Expanded Financial Aid for SEAS

“Students on financial aid at The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, both those who are currently enrolled and those in all future classes, will benefit from the University’s expanded financial aid plan,” said SEAS Interim Dean Gerald A. Navratil. “For students qualifying for financial aid, the new University plan has three key elements, which include:
* Eliminating loans for all students receiving aid, whatever their family income;
* Further assisting low-income families by no longer expecting parents with calculated incomes below $60,000 to contribute any income or assets to tuition, room, board, mandatory fees and personal expenses. For families with calculated incomes between $60,000 to $100,000, parental contributions will be significantly reduced.
* Supporting students pursuing study abroad, research, internships and community service opportunities by offering additional funding and exemptions from academic year and summer work responsibilities.”
“These measures go a long way toward removing financial burdens that have made a Columbia education out of reach for many prospective students,” said the dean. “Historically, SEAS and the College have long-standing commitments to both the quality and the very broad diversity of our undergraduate students. These financial aid changes extend that commitment by making Columbia significantly more affordable to an even wider range of families.” For complete details on the expanded financial aid announcement, see the University’s announcement at: http://www.columbia.edu/cu/news/08/03/FinancialAid.html.
