Choosing A Major

Choosing a major is an important decision, and there are many resources for you to tap into to choose an engineering discipline that excites you. For example, all of the engineering academic departments have a designated person to advise sophomores on the choice of major. They can give you a perspective on the department as well as the career outlooks for a particular area of study.

All of the engineering academic departments have a designated contact person for sophomore advising, who can give you a perspective on the department and career outlooks for that particular area of study.

As you explore different majors, you can be confident that engineering – whatever discipline you choose – is increasingly seen as a foundational degree.  Our School’s vision, Columbia Engineering for Humanity, underscores the ways in which engineers help create a more sustainable, healthy, secure, connected, and creative humanity.  Regardless of your chosen path, your course of study and graduation from Columbia will equip you for a career in which you can contribute your knowledge, curiosity, and skills to a better humanity.
