Dean Welcomes SEAS Class of 2003
In welcoming the Class of 2003, Dean Zvi Galil noted that, for
the past several years, he has been able to tell each entering class
that they are the most selective class in the history of the School.
This year's class is no exception. The acceptance rate hovered at
28%, and for the first time in recent memory, the School did not
go to the wait list to fill its class of 295.
"These statistics do not tell the whole story," said
Dean Galil. "We are admitting students with average SAT scores
of 1420, the highest ever. This means we are selecting from the
best students both nationally and internationally."Costantino
Colombo, Dean of Student Affairs, congratulated parents on the fine
job they have done in rearing their children and thanked them for
entrusting their sons and daughters to Columbia for the next four
years.

"The University takes seriously its responsibility to them,"
he said, "and we will provide well for their intellectual and
social growth." The new structure of Class Centers will promote
class unity, he said, as will the new student activity center, Alfred
Lerner Hall.
