Loyal Alumni Increase Annual Fund
For the fifth year in a row, the School's Annual Fund has continued
to climb, thanks to contributions from many loyal alumni and friends
of the School. This year's Annual Fund exceeded $1.3 million, an
increase of more than 21% over last year's all-time high of $1.1
million. "Last year, I was delighted that, after so many years
of hard work by all our alumni, we crossed the million dollar threshold,"
said Annual Fund Chair James M. Li '68.
"This year's results make me proud to know that so many alumni
feel as I do: that we want to give something back to the School
that gave us our start," he said.
"Our next challenge is to increase the number of alumni who
give," continued Mr. Li. "While we may not agree that
alumni giving should be used to rank the academic merit of a school,
many national rankings see that as a measure of alumni satisfaction.
To help us continue our forward progress in the rankings game, we
need to have more alumni give. The measure is not how much is given,
but how many alumni participate in the Annual Fund."
"I especially would like to encourage alumni who have not
given within the past two fiscal years and our newest alumni, those
who graduated after 1990, to help the School achieve the stature
it deserves by sending a check-in any amount-to assist the next
generation of Columbia engineers," said Mr. Li.
