SOCG's Great Teacher 1999
"I enjoy teaching, I enjoy interacting with students and I
enjoy instilling in them a love of the subject," said Donald
Goldfarb, Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and
Operations Research and the 1999 recipient of the Great Teachers
Award from the Society of Columbia Graduates. He shares the honor
with Columbia College's Kenneth T. Jackson, Jacques Barzun Professor
of History and Social Sciences.
"I've
never seen anybody so dedicated to teaching," said one of his
students recently. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Goldfarb is
Principal Investigator for five substantial research grants in his
area of expertise: the development and analysis of optimization
algorithms.
The award was presented to Dr. Goldfarb at a dinner in October
at Low Memorial Library Rotunda.
