Jim Albaugh 74, president and CEO of Space and Communi-cations for The Boeing Company and leader of the largest space-related enterprise in the world, will be the Deans Day keynote speaker on Saturday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the C.P. Davis Auditorium of the Schapiro Center for Engineering and Physical Science Research. He will give the Magill Lecture in Science, Technology and the Arts, speaking on Spacecraft: The Art of Designing and Crafting Space-Bound Platforms. The Magill Lecture Series is made possible through the generosity of the late Dr. Frank N. Magill 34, who founded Salem Press, a California-based publisher of reference books in both the humanities and sciences. Jim received bachelors degrees in mathematics and physics from Willamette University and an M.S. in civil engineering from Columbia. In a departure from the schedule of previous years, this years Reunion weekend will present Deans Day in the mid-morning, followed by an All-Class Lunch.
While his appearance is still unconfirmed, Michael Massimino 84, who was part of the team that successfully repaired the Hubble Space Telescope in March, has been invited to Deans Day. It is hoped Dr. Massimino will be on campus for a special ceremony following the luncheon to present Dean Zvi Galil with an Engineering School banner that went into space with him on the space shuttle Columbia. Afternoon programming will include an opportunity for classes to get together for informal chat sessions. Klaus Lackner, professor of earth and environmental engineering, will join alumni for tea and cookies to discuss low-emission coal. The Classes of 92 and 97 will have joint receptions with the College and Barnard. For a nostalgic dinner, join your friends at V&Ts for an all-class dinner. Champagne and dancing on the steps of Low complete the day. To have the stamina to enjoy it all, start at 8 a.m. with yoga or jogging with the Dean.
