Alumni Thanked for Financial Aid

Students from SEAS and Columbia College joined forces on Valentine’s eve to thank alumni who have contributed to the Annual Fund and thus have supported scholarship aid to almost half the School’s students. Billed as a “Thank-a-thon,” the event brought out more than 40 SEAS students who called alumni nationwide to thank them for their generosity.

“Our student leaders were anxious to let our alumni know how grateful they are personally for the Annual Fund dollars that are used for financial aid,” said Dean Zvi Galil. “We devised this event so our alumni could learn first hand what their contributions mean to our students.”

Tom Fazzio ’06, president of Engineering Student Council, shares calling responsibilities with Liz Strauss ’08, vice president of the Class of 2008. They were among the 40 SEAS student volunteers who participated in the Thank-a-thon.

Engineering Student Council President Tom Fazzio ’06 said, “It was amazing to see first-hand the strength and continued commitment that SEAS alumni continue to share with our beloved school. It was an amazing experience to be able to learn just how active and engaged our alumni really are. More importantly, it let these dedicated alumni know what an impact their support directly has on students like me. Columbia Engineering would not have the great stature it has today if it were not for the continued support of our alumni, and, as an undergraduate who has had a truly meaningful and enriching experience here at Alma Mater, I continue to say thank you!”
