Columbia University and Amazon Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program

Participate in a unique academic-industry collaboration to foster career exploration at the frontiers of engineering research. This eight-week program in New York City will allow you an opportunity to engage in cutting edge research on campus at Columbia University and be mentored by faculty and STEM professionals representing multiple career paths from academia and industry.

EXPLORE RESEARCH THAT IMPACTS HUMANITY

  • Explore and understand the potential for fundamental research to impact discoveries in such areas as artificial intelligence, computational science and engineering, advanced materials/devices, and robotics. See how breakthroughs in the lab can lead to solutions for humanity's grand challenges, such as the quest for sustainable energy and clean water, affordable and accessible medical innovations, climate change mitigation, ethical and trustworthy autonomous systems, and better future of work and living.

GET A FIRSTHAND LOOK AT TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

  • Meet and be mentored by Columbia and Amazon experts and practitioners. Learn about the critical steps necessary to bring a product to market—from design and customer needs understanding to testing and product distribution—and gain a unique end-to-end learning experience covering user-inspired research, human-centered design, and systems thinking.

HONE YOUR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPAND YOUR NETWORK

  • Build close connections with your fellow participants through shared residence and social activities throughout New York City. Interact and network with students from other summer programs occurring on campus, particularly the [email protected] program. Attend workshops and seminars, build a personal professional network, and engage in discussions on ethics, scientific integrity, the importance of teamwork, and the principles of effective project management.

ACCELERATE YOUR STEM CAREER

  • Gain an advantage through continued post-program engagements, industry exposure and opportunity for applying for internships, and career support, including consultation on application for future graduate education and advice on preparing for various STEM career pathways. We will help you navigate the road ahead and get on track to career success.

Application Deadline: February 25, 2021
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. Early application is encouraged. Housing will be subject to public health conditions and university/public policies at time of program.
