Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang graduated from Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California. He is currently interested in the fields of Applied Physics and Computer Science.

During high school, Alex participated in a wide array of STEM competitions, pursuing his passion for problem solving. He was a five-time USA Physics Olympiad Semifinalist and a two-time gold medalist (10th and 11th grade). He also won gold medals in the Princeton University Physics Competition and Princeton University Explorer Competition. Apart from physics, he was a 5-time American Invitational Mathematics Exam qualifier with a high score of 13 as well as a USA Math Olympiad qualifier. He was also a USA Biology Olympiad semifinalist.

Alex also pursued his passion of STEM through various research experiences. Most notably, he conducted a research project through the Garcia Program at Stony Brook University. His paper, titled “P12’s Suppressive Effects on Fibrinogen Fiber Formation and Novel Application of Machine Learning in Fiber Counting,” won Finalist in the Siemens Research Competition.

Apart from STEM, Alex enjoys creative writing. Both his prose and poetry pieces have been published in literary journals such as Crashtest, and he has won numerous awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing contest. He was also the editor for two literary magazines. Furthermore, Alex is an avid bassoonist, playing in his school’s band as well as the California All-State Honor Bands and Orchestra. In his free time, Alex has a secret passion for fishing, specifically flyfishing. Because of flyfishing, he became involved in Trout Unlimited, a volunteer organization which emphasizes freshwater conservation. Through his position as a national board member, he has lead several projects, including a fundraiser that raised over $20,000 for a local creek project. While at home, he enjoys playing video games, wandering around aimlessly on the internet, and watching random movies.
