John-Michael D'Andrea

John-Michael D’Andrea is a freshman from Whittier, CA. He graduated from Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA in June of 2014 and plans to major in either Civil Engineering or IEOR and perhaps minor in Architecture, History, or Economics.

While at Polytechnic School, John-Michael became involved with the SEAL program, a subdivision of the CCI Solar project at the California Institute of Technology. Through the program, he researched the efficacy of several combinations of semiconductors as catalysts for the oxidation reaction of a solar-driven water splitting reaction.

Outside of the classroom, John-Michael had leadership positions in Latinos Unidos and the school’s Judiciary Committee. He also was a member of the varsity men’s swimming and diving team and played water polo.

So far, at Columbia, John-Michael has joined the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, has worked on the Bridge team in Engineers Without Borders, and has become a Sales Associate at the Spectator Publishing Company.
