Rex is currently doing research with Professor Xi Chen in the Computer Science Department of Columbia University. Under Professor Chen’s guidance, he is pursuing his interest in algorithms, game theory, and complexity theory.

Rex conducted research in the Nutritional Sciences Department of Cornell University on RNA-seq, a new tool that quantifies gene expression. Guided by Professor Zhenglong Gu, he analyzed the cost-effectiveness of differently-sized RNA-seq datasets for highly-expressed genes. His paper, "Diminishing returns in next-generation sequencing (NGS) transcriptome data," was published in the journal Gene.

In his spare time, Rex likes to hang out with friends and work out. He enjoys playing basketball, viola, and Super Smash Bros. Melee, getting tickets to Broadway and talk shows, and exploring New York City.
