Zachary Geddes

Zachary is from Fort Pierce, Florida. He received a degree from Indian River State College in April 2017 and graduated as the valedictorian of Fort Pierce Central High School in May 2017. He plans to major in Applied Mathematics or Computer Science and minor in Sustainable Engineering.

Zach’s main academic interest lies in the intersection between technology and social change. While in high school, he worked with congressional and presidential campaigns to increase underserved communities’ access to political information. He also founded a first-generation mentorship program, developing workshops to bring academic and financial resources to first- generation, lowincome students.

After graduating, Zach took a gap year after receiving an offer for a software development intern position at NASA Kennedy Space Center. There he worked with a team of graduate students on the command and control launch system for the agency’s next spacecraft for manned deep space exploration. He also completed human factors research, to be used in future missions.

In his spare time, Zach enjoys reading political fiction novels, watching sitcoms, and trying new cuisines.
