Materials Science & Engineering Colloquium - Hybrid
Dr. Kat Stephan
Senior Scientific Editor, Joule at Cell Press
Publishing with Joule: Editorial Insights from Cell Press
Abstract: Scientific publishing can feel like a bit of a black box. How do editors assess your manuscript? How are reviewers chosen? Why is it taking so long to get reviews back on a paper? In this presentation, Kat Stephan, an editor at Joule, will provide an overview of the
Cell Press publishing ecosystem and the scientific publishing process. She will also share tips for writing impactful papers. This session will be interactive so please bring questions you may have about scientific publishing or careers as a scientific editor.
Bio: Kat Stephan is a senior scientific editor at Joule. She has been an editor at Joule for four years and has primarily handled papers related to electrochemical energy storage. She developed the Battery Checklist used by physical science journals across Cell Press. Before
becoming an editor, she received her PhD from Brown University in 2019 where she worked on X-ray characterization of Li-ion batteries.
