Chris Boyce awarded Young Investigator Program honor by Office of Naval Research

The Office of Naval Research has given the Young Investigator Program (YIP) award to Chris Boyce, assistant professor of chemical engineering, for his research under the section of Mission Capable, Persistent and Survivable Naval Platforms Code 33. This department develops and delivers technologies that enable superior warfighting and energy capabilities for naval forces, platforms, and undersea weaponry.

Under the Navy Undersea research program, Chris Boyce focused on the controllable segregation of granular particles for powering Undersea Vehicles. His main research focuses on the fundamentals of multiphase flows to spark advances in energy, health and the environment, utilizing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computational modeling to gain insight into complex systems. 

Designed to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who show exceptional promise for doing creative research, YIP provides up to $510,000 in research grants to conduct their proposed research. Boyce is one of 25 individuals who have been awarded for 2023. 

In addition to this award, Boyce also received a Career Award by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2022, as well as recently being featured in Forbes 30 under 30 in Science.
