May 04 2020

Gabriel Ryan, a second-year PhD student in computer science, has been awarded a National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. He is working in the Security Group under Professors Suman Jana and Salvatore Stolfo, with a focus on using deep learning to construct logical formulas for program verification and synthesis. Prior to joining Columbia for graduate studies, Ryan worked as a software engineer developing systems for data security, robotic 3D mapping and localization, and ballistic missile defense.

Established by Congress in 1989, the NDSEG supports students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for advancing science and engineering disciplines of military importance. It is sponsored by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, the Army Research Office, and the Office of Naval Research under the Office of the Under Secretary for Research and Engineering.
