Teaching Orientation for New Faculty
Tuesday,
August 29, 2017
11:30 AM - 5:00 PM
The Columbia University Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) welcomes new faculty! At the start of each semester, the Center for Teaching and Learning provides faculty with an orientation that offers practical, evidence-based strategies faculty can implement on the first day of class, and introduces new faculty to the Columbia teaching culture. You might be brand new to teaching or you might be more seasoned, but either way we'll get you off to a great start.
During the opening panel, participants will have an opportunity to hear from senior colleagues about what they wish they had known on the first day. They will also have a chance to talk to the learners themselves as Columbia students share their most memorable and engaging experiences. CTL facilitators will lead sessions on high-impact strategies for the first week of class and beyond. At the end of the day, participants are invited to gather with their colleagues for wine, cheese, and peer mentoring.
This orientation is open to all faculty. The sessions are especially useful for new and junior faculty and faculty starting a new teaching role or course. Food and refreshments will be provided.
