Partner at Altos Ventures

Richard Song is a Partner at Altos Ventures, where he focuses on the firm's investments in Korean startups across consumer, fintech, and deep tech. He serves on the boards of numerous portfolio companies and works closely with founders scaling between Korea and the US.

Before joining Altos in 2020, Richard was CFO of Coupang for nine years, helping guide the company from an early-stage startup through its growth into Korea's largest e-commerce company. Previously, he was CFO of Hi-Dis, Inc., a mobile components manufacturer backed by BlueRun Ventures, and CFO of Hyundai Autonet, a publicly traded auto parts company co-owned by Siemens AG and Hyundai Motors. Prior to returning to Korea in 2006, Richard was Head of Asia M&A for Siemens AG, based in Hong Kong and Beijing. He began his career as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch in New York and Tokyo.

In education, Richard serves on the Board of Visitors of Columbia Engineering, the Board of Directors of Fulbright Korea, and the Board of Governors of Seoul Foreign School. He holds an MBA from The Wharton School and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University.
