Columbia Engineering, UTEC Partner to Advance Global Engineering Education
New dual-degree program to launch in 2025
Leaders from Columbia Engineering and Peru-based Universidad de Ingeniería y Tecnología (UTEC), met Oct. 31 to cement a new partnership between the two institutions. Dean Shih-Fu Chang, Senior Vice Provost Soulaymane Kachani, and Vice Dean of Academic Programs Barclay Morrison III welcomed UTEC Founder and Board Chair Eduardo Hochschild, Advisory Board Member Guillermo Beeck, and President Javier Bustamante to the Morningside Heights campus.
At the signing ceremony, Dean Chang and the delegation formally approved the 4+1 agreement, which allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree from UTEC and continue on to pursue a master’s degree at Columbia Engineering. The first intake of students for this program is expected to begin in fall 2025.
“Global collaborations with top institutions like UTEC are a high priority,” Chang said. “Columbia Engineering is excited to pursue a shared vision to advance globally minded education across many different fields.”
“My wife and I started UTEC as a nonprofit institution to train leaders who take on challenges, understand the needs of their environment and can make strategic decisions that have a positive impact on society,” Hochschild said. “I think Columbia Engineering can help advance that mission.”
