A New Way to Engage with Experts at Columbia Engineering

In this moment of tremendous challenges and opportunities, it's more important than ever for leaders in industry, policy, and government to understand how today's research will transform the technologies shaping the future.

To that end, Columbia Engineering is proud to announce The Lever, a new effort to share our expertise beyond the University.

The Lever is a new collection of limited-series newsletters straight from our faculty. In each edition, researchers at the forefront of discovery break a problem or technology into its core elements and explore the most likely pathways for progress. Over the course of a few days, subscribers will get an inside view into topics like sustainable energy, AI agents, or women's health research.

Bringing Renewable Energy to the Grid

The transition to sustainable energy is picking up steam, but there's a problem. Our existing power grid was built for fossil fuel generators that could easily produce more power — or less — depending on what was needed. In the first issue of The Lever, researchers explore the challenge of integrating sustainable sources like wind and solar into the system.
