Student Support Initiative

Columbia Engineering is an exceptional place, with the finest faculty and facilities and an atmosphere of collaborative innovation that is hard to match. 

It is also the home of transformative education, where passionate and talented students are shaped into leaders, gaining the knowledge and experiences they need to excel in the profession and carry forward our mission of engineering for humanity.

Our goal is to make this kind of education available to all qualified students, whatever their background. Ability to pay shouldn’t stand in the way.

The Student Support Initiative was launched university wide in 2021 to give focused attention to raising the resources needed to fund scholarships and fellowships so the most talented students of today can train to be the world-changing leaders of tomorrow.

This effort continues an institutional commitment to make opportunity available to all, without regard to the ability to pay. At the undergraduate level, for instance, students with a family income of under $150,000 a year attend tuition free, and loans are not part of our financial aid packages — so students graduate without a burden of debt. 

In recent years, however, costs are rising rapidly and, with them, student financial need. Greater resources are needed to keep the door of opportunity open and widen it still more to embrace a new generation of students.
