Columbia Engineering Doctoral Hooding Ceremony 


This dedicated ceremony continues the time-honored tradition of doctoral candidates being hooded by their thesis advisors. It also provides a meaningful opportunity for our doctoral students to unite and celebrate this significant milestone as a community.

Columbia University Commencement Ceremony


A commencement ceremony for all eligible April, May, and June 2026 degree candidates, and February 2026 and October 2025 graduates from all schools and colleges affiliated with Columbia University, as well as family and friends.   • Will Columbia Engineering Graduate Class Day be streamed?

    Yes, Columbia Engineering Graduate Class Day will be live-streamed, a link to the webcast will be provided in the weeks prior. University Commencement will also be live streamed as well. Information on the University Commencement can be found on the Commencement webpage.  

  • What is the difference between Columbia Engineering Graduate Class Day and University Commencement?

    Class Day is the graduation ceremony hosted by your school, where your name will be read aloud, and you and your classmates will be individually recognized for your outstanding achievements. You will hear remarks from Dean Chang, and alumni and graduate student leaders.

    Commencement is a University-wide ceremony in which the University President officially confers degrees to the graduating students en masse. Graduating students from all of the schools of Columbia University participate. Attending the University Commencement ceremony is not required to graduate from the University and receive your diploma, but it is a rich, deeply symbolic tradition that graduates and their families have enjoyed for over a century.
