Ellen Neff

Science Communication Manager

Ellen is the Science Communications Manager for the Columbia Quantum Initiative (CQI), which brings together researchers from across Columbia Engineering and the Faculty of Arts & Sciences to advance quantum science and technology.

She manages the CQI website, social channels, and newsletter and writes quantum news stories, research highlights, and profiles. 

Before joining Columbia in September 2021, Ellen was a science writer & magazine editor for Lab Animal, a Nature Research journal focused on in vivo science and technology. She has also worked at NASA, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the non-profit Oceana, and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, where she conducted her graduate research.

She received her undergraduate degree in biological science, with minors in chemistry and classics, from the University of Pittsburgh and her Master’s degree in marine science from Northeastern University. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, she has lived in New York with her family since 2016.
