Richard Hagen

Assistant Director, Graduate Student Affairs

Richard Hagen is the Director of the Bridge to PhD Program at Columbia University.

With a background in academia, he previously served as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Director of Academic Summer at Roberts Wesleyan University. In this role, he was responsible for creating an engaging learning environment, overseeing administrative tasks, and actively contributing to committees focused on retention, academic integrity, and DEI enhancement.

In his current role, he leads an intensive research, academic, and mentoring initiative designed to empower post-baccalaureates to overcome barriers and successfully transition into Ph.D. programs in STEM disciplines. Passionate about fostering diversity and accessibility in STEM education, he is dedicated to equipping individuals with the tools and resources necessary to excel in their graduate studies and beyond.

Hagen holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Auburn University and is committed to advancing equity and excellence in STEM education. With a strong dedication to teaching and mentorship, he has organized outreach programs to engage and motivate young students to pursue STEM subjects.
