Shiho Kawashima
Associate Professor of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
Shiho Kawashima's research focuses on cement rheology, processing, and characterization, with recent efforts on emerging additive manufacturing and CO2 mineralization pathways.
She is also interested in improved processing and rheology of other sustainable building materials, including earth. Kawashima is an active member of American Concrete Institute (TCs 236 Material Science of Concrete and 238 Workability of Concrete), American Ceramics Society (ACerS) Cements Division, and RILEM (TCs Processing of Earth-based Materials (PEM) and Magnesia Based Cements (MBC)). She also serves on the editorial board of ACI Materials Journal (current Editor-in-Chief), RILEM Technical Letters, and Cement and Concrete Research.
Kawashima received her BS in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University, and her MS and PhD in Structural Engineering and Materials at Northwestern University. She joined Columbia University as an Assistant Professor in 2013 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020.
