Community Scholarships

Alumbra Scholarship for Leadership in Engineering
Named after the Spanish word for “to shine light,” the new scholarship supports students actively engaged in Columbia’s Latino/a community, with a goal of increasing the presence and impact of members of this community within the field of engineering.

Combined Plan Scholarship Fund
The Combined Plan program allows students to complete both a liberal arts and engineering degree in as little as five years. Participants in the program can complete all years of the program at Columbia, or earn the liberal arts degree at another school before completing the engineering portion at Columbia. This fund expands opportunities for students pursuing this path.

Hong Kong Alumni Engineering Scholarship Fund
Established by the Columbia University Hong Kong Alumni Club, this fund primarily supports students who are residents of Hong Kong, Mainland China, or Taiwan.

James R. Priest Scholarship Fund
Named in honor of Columbia’s first Black graduate, who graduated from the School of Mines in the 1870s, this fund supports Black undergraduate engineering students who have demonstrated leadership in and support of the Black community.

Joseph F. Traub Graduate Fellowship Fund
Joseph F. Traub was a pioneering computer scientist, the founding chair of the Computer Science Department at Columbia, and a significant contributor to the field. A gift from alumni and friends in his honor established this fund, which provides financial support for graduate students in engineering.

Mahsa Amini Graduate Fellowship
The Mahsa Amini Graduate Fellowship was endowed in 2023 to honor the memory of Mahsa (Jina) Amini مهسا (ژینا) امینی. Eligible students will have lived or studied in Iran and have overcome systemic challenges, such as gender-based or other obstacles, in their academic pursuits. In the absence of eligible students from Iran in any year, the fellowship may be awarded to students who have lived or studied in the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

Taiwan Columbia Alumni Association (CAA) Engineering Scholarship Fund
Established by the Columbia Alumni Association of Taiwan, one of the largest alumni associations of an American university in the area, this scholarship provides funding for engineering students who are residents of Taiwan.

Van C. Mow Fellowship
Van C. Mow was an early pioneer in the field of biomechanics and the founding chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia. This fund was established in his honor by Yuling Wei to provide fellowships for doctoral students at Columbia Engineering who are or plan to be engaged in biomedical research.

Z. Y. Fu Memorial Scholars Endowed Scholarship Fund
Z.Y. Fu was a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, providing generous support to Columbia Engineering over many years, including funding for outstanding students of Chinese origin to attend the school. Alumni who benefited from his generosity established this scholarship in his name, continuing to help deserving Chinese students receive the world-class education Columbia Engineering offers.
