Research Interests

Entrepreneurial strategy, the impact of Knightian uncertainty on startup management, power law distributions in venture capital.

Jerry is the Managing Director of Neu Venture Capital, an early-stage venture capital fund in New York City. Previously he cofounded Root Markets Inc. and managed Omnicom Group’s venture capital division. He writes about startup management, the history of venture capital, and early-stage venture investing.

Jerry’s investment focus is on commercializing leading-edge technologies, primarily in the data, financial, and education sectors. He has invested in more than 70 startups, who have collectively created more than $100 billion in market value.

Jerry received a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a MBA from NYU.  He is currently an adjunct professor at Columbia. He has guest-lectured on venture capital and entrepreneurship at NYU, the University of Chicago, and Case Western.

  • Neu Venture Capital, Managing Director. Neu VC invests in early-stage enterprise software companies in the data, financial, and education sectors.
  • Root Markets Inc., Co-founder. Root Markets created a marketplace for consumers to monetize their own information.
  • Communicade, a division of Omnicom Group, Managing Director. Communicade was Omnicom Group’s venture capital division.
  • Prodigy Services, Director of Finance. Prodigy was an early internet access provider.
  • Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group, Manager.
  • IBM, Engineer. Processor design group, System 390.

Jerry has also served on the board of directors at over a dozen early-stage technology companies as part of his investing and consulting work.
