Columbia Engineers Recognized in MOR’s 50th Anniversary Retrospective
As part of its 50th anniversary, the journal, Mathematics of Operations Research, highlighted landmark papers from each year, including contributions from Columbia Engineering.
To mark its 50th anniversary, the senior editors of the leading journal, Mathematics of Operations Research (MOR), selected 50 landmark papers–one from each year–highlighting advances in the field over five decades. Among those recognized were Columbia Engineering faculty members in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, Garud Iyengar and Ward Whitt, along with Columbia Engineering alumni and Nobel laureate Alvin Roth BS’71.
Reflecting on the journal’s history, former editors noted how operations research has increasingly blurred disciplinary boundaries, integrating complexity theory, algorithms, and machine learning into the field.
Congratulations to our Columbia Engineering researchers included in this list. For the complete list of papers recognized, visit MOR’s announcement page.
