Highlights from the ceremonies
“I want to be doing something that I can feel proud of and feel like I'm contributing to a better future.”
Carolina Perez
Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, Class of ’22
“Contrary to what a lot of people think, there isn’t always one correct answer, but many ways to approach a problem. It’s fascinating seeing how people come up with different solutions and then amalgamate them to find a solution that works best.”
Kanishk Vashisht
Application Process Overview
-
Find Your Program
Start by narrowing down your focus to the program you think is the best fit for your background and career goals. Note that you can only apply to one program at a time.
-
See Application Requirements
A complete application will include the following:
- Online application form
- $85 application fee
- Transcripts
- 3 Letters of recommendation
- Resume/CV
- Test scores
- Personal statement
- Video interview (for MS applications; may be required for doctoral programs)
Application Deadlines
- December 15th for doctoral programs.
- For master’s programs, some have a priority deadline of January 15th; all have a regular deadline of February 15th.
- For programs that allow students to start in the spring semester, the deadline is October 15th.
This is just an overview. Be sure to read the complete admission requirements, including special instructions for international applicants, as you begin the process to make sure you understand what is involved.
-
Gather Required Materials
It will take you some work to assemble the materials you’ll need for your application. We strongly recommend you start early to avoid missing a deadline because you haven’t received something on time.
The key pieces you will need to collect from others include:
- Transcripts: You will be required to provide a copy of your transcripts for any university-level work with your application.
- Test scores: If you are submitting test scores with your application, you will be asked to upload a copy of your score report. An official report can be sent to Columbia Engineering (ETS school code: 2111) after admission.
- Letters of recommendation: Get in touch right away with the people you plan to ask to provide letters for you and let them know what to expect. They will hear from Columbia directly after you provide their contact information in your online application.
-
Complete the Online Application
The online application will ask you to provide basic information, like the program to which you’re applying and your work history, and will prompt you to upload the different elements noted above.
You will also be asked to provide your personal statement, which is your opportunity to explain to the admission committee the distinct qualities and commitment you would bring to your department and the overall Columbia Engineering community.
You can begin working on the application right away. Once you have created an account you can save your progress and return to it later.
-
Receive a Decision
We notify candidates of admission decisions in the months following posted program deadlines. Though we do our best to release results as soon as possible, please be aware that this can take several months.
