Eres David

Eres David is from McDonough, Georgia and graduated from Eagle’s Landing High School. She is interested in sustainable engineering solutions, environmental toxicology, and environmental policy. Eres plans to major in Earth and Environmental Engineering in SEAS with a possible minor in either political science or biomedical engineering.

Eres has been an avid scientific researcher since middle school, participating in the Georgia State Science and Engineering Fair each year of her middle and high school career. She was named an International Science and Engineering Fair Finalist with her project evaluating methane gas production from biomaterials in an anaerobic digestion chamber, mimicking biodigesters that are used for sustainable fuel production. Eres has also interned at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), working with a team as a systems integration engineer. Her team developed a round-counting device for a militarized vehicle. This project led to a currently pending patent for a Radio Frequency Identification Transponder Glove with GTRI.

Not only is Eres deeply interested in engineering, but she is also largely involved in volunteer service and community engagement. As a member of both Girl Scouts of the USA and Jack and Jill of America INC., Eres has logged hundreds of hours of community service annually, which has earned her The President’s Volunteer Service Award each year since 2018. In addition, Eres served as a Junior Commissioner for Henry County’s Board of Commissioners for three years. During her time in this position, she worked with fellow Junior Commissioners to use a 3 million dollar budget to plan renovations for a neglected park. Additionally, Eres led community initiatives and volunteered at community events throughout the year. Eres also served two terms as a Student Advisor for Georgia’s State School Superintendent, acting as a liaison between K- 12 students and the Georgia Department of Education.

In  high school, Eres led several clubs, which include National Spanish Honor Society, National Beta Club, Maker’s Club, and Culinary Club (founder). She also played Varsity Volleyball, where she is the current record-holder for most career assists and most career aces. Outside of school, Eres played club volleyball for 8 years and in her free time, she loves listening to music, cooking, collecting vinyl records, and watching sitcoms.

As a Columbia student, Eres hopes to dive into interdisciplinary research, melding the areas of environmental engineering, political science, and public health to explore sustainable engineering solutions for countries across the globe. She would also like to explore the protection of human health through effective environmental policies and sustainable engineering practices.
