Onboarding & Orientation
Faculty at Columbia Engineering undergo onboarding and orientation as part of their introduction to the University and New York City.
New Faculty Orientation
Before the start of the academic year, SEAS holds a New Faculty Orientation (NFO) for all incoming full-time faculty. The NFO is designed to introduce new faculty to topics related to research and innovation; faculty promotion & tenure; communications, outreach, and DEI; perspectives on teaching; engineering student affairs, advising, and admissions; and more.
Key staff members from various SEAS departments will orient new faculty on each unit’s responsibilities and what resources exist. By the end of the NFO, incoming faculty will leave with a high-level understanding of various administrative workflows and the staff who manage these efforts. There will also be a panel of junior faculty to provide firsthand accounts of transitioning to faculty life at Columbia.
New faculty may request orientation materials from Faculty Affairs ([email protected]).
Faculty Benefits
The majority of faculty benefits are administered centrally, in particular health and welfare benefits (inclusive of programs that provide medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, and tax savings accounts), and retirement benefits. Faculty should refer to the Columbia University website links below for information.
Please see the Work/Life section to learn more about other programs and SEAS-specific benefits in greater detail.
